Benahavis property regularly ranks among the most expensive real estate in Spain, and 2022 was no exception. This enclave on the Golden Triangle ended the year with the priciest homes in the country. Marbella wasn’t far behind, with Sotogrande, Estepona and Mijas also making the top 20. As a result, the Costa del Sol confirms its position as one of the stellar property spots in Spain last year.

Benahavis property most expensive in Spain

The latest rankings from Idealista reveal that Benahavis was the priciest place to buy property in Spain in Q4 last year. The average price for real estate in this part of the Costa del Sol stood at €1.86 million.

Benahavis regularly ranks at the top of the listings because of its high-end property market. Most real estate in the village and surrounding developments easily cost several million. Furthermore, those in the exclusive complex of La Zagaleta stand among the most expensive in southern Europe.

    Marbella in third position

Calvia in Mallorca took second place with average property prices in the region of €1.57 million. Just behind Calvia, was Marbella, another regular resort in the listings for the most expensive property in Spain.

According to the Q4 rankings, the average property in Marbella cost €1.31 million. However, like Benahavís, Marbella also has homes with multi-million euro price tags, particularly in districts such as the Golden Mile and Sierra Blanca

Other Costa del Sol resorts in the top 25

The vast majority of the 20 most expensive places to buy property in Spain were on the Mediterranean. Indeed, all but Adeje on the island of Tenerife were located on this coastline.

Also on the Costa del Sol, Sotogrande has inched further towards the top three in the ranking. In Q4 last year, this exclusive enclave stood in fourth position, with an average price of €962,000 per property.

Further east, Estepona continued to be one of the focal points for high-end homes. As a result, real estate in Estepona cost an average of €563,000, in 14th position in the national rankings.

Mijas appeared in the top 25, yet again. Specifically in 20th place, with medium prices of €427,000 for homes in the village and Mijas Costa

Completing the Costa del Sol seven were Alhaurin de la Torre and Benalmádena. The two towns stood in 22nd and 23rd positions, respectively. Homes in Alhaurin de la Torre cost an average of just over €400,000, while those in Benalmádena had a price tag of €394,000.

    Most sought-after property in Spain

Spain’s capital ranked yet again as the most sought-after for real estate in Spain. Madrid city centre took the first position, while four of its suburbs also stood in the top ten.

In terms of demand, only Malaga city represented the Costa del Sol in this ranking. It took 13th position, confirming the city’s ever-growing presence on the Spanish real estate map.
