Alcadaisa Links Golf Course
This is a course with a typically Scottish design, right next to the beach at Cadiz and offering spectacular views out over the sea.
It is the first links-style course in Spain and is very different from all of the other courses in the area.
Consisting of a round of 18 holes and with a par of 72, it is a smooth course and on a clear day you can see Africa.
The most spectacular features of the round are the natural dunes around the holes and the ever-present sea.
It is situated a mere 5 minutes from Sotogrande, at kilometre 124.6 on the motorway between Sotogrande and La Línea.
The location means there is a wide choice of tourist accommodation in the surrounding area such as the Hotels San Roque Suits, Atalaya, El Paraíso, Don Carlos, Don Miguel and Puente Romano, to name but a few.

Almenara Hotel Golf
The Almenara golf course is situated in the “Urbanización de Sotogrande” residential estate, on the shores of the Mediterranean, so the views are magnificent.
The course consists of 27 holes, where the designer and player Dave Thomas has created a real challenge for the skilful golfer, with undulating fairways and deep bunkers.
Almenara is a fine course which requires intelligence and accuracy. The most notable features of the course are the proliferation of water and the three very distinct rounds. The first part runs past a wooded area which is characteristic of Sotogrande, the second runs through a more open area where there is a spectacular lake, and the third stretch contains some of the most impressive tees in Europe and also runs past a series of big lakes, so you will enjoy very different scenery on each set of nine holes.
This course is a course for thinkers, and you will need to plan ahead carefully before driving off.

Aloha Golf
The Aloha golf club is situated in Marbella, right in the heart of the Costa del Golf, and just a few minutes from Puerto Banús, on the Urbanización Nueva Andalucía residential development.
Aloha Golf is an entertaining course which requires accuracy and hard-hitting: The holes are not excessively long except for the 1st, the 4 th, the 13 th and the 18 th. Is it a narrow course with plenty of hazards and trees which are strategically placed. The rough also complicates matters and some of the greens have an uneven surface and are a challenge even for more skilful players.
Members have priority when it comes to playing on the course and non-members can play at the invitation of a member. In the peak season, November and April, it is difficult to get a game. The atmosphere of the club is excellent and has achieved a perfect balance between a cosmopolitan air and the warm welcome which all golfers enjoy.

Atalaya Golf & Country Club
Atalaya Golf & Country Club has two splendid 18-hole courses, the Old Course and the New Course. As its name indicates, the Old Course is the earliest, and was inaugurated in 1968. The club lies between Estepona and Marbella and apart from the two 18-hole courses it also offers one of the biggest practice courses in Spain where golf classes are taught in a variety of languages.
The Old Course offers an entertaining round which is not particularly difficult, with fast greens and beautiful views.
The New Course was inaugurated in 1992. It is close to the Old Course but faces inwards towards the mountains. Its strategic position gives it spectacular panoramic views. It is a course which is suitable for players of all levels and this has made it one of the most popular courses of the Costa del Sol.
Both courses form part of a complex which includes the Atalaya Park hotel and offers its clients a wide variety of leisure and sports activities.

Baviera Golf S.A.
Situated in the foothills of the Sierra de la Almijara mountain range, in a valley with an ideal microclimate for a game of golf. The course has 18 holes of which 9 under construction.
The main feature of the first 9 holes is the fairly even terrain, where water comes into play on 4 holes and makes the 4th hole especially complicated. On the next 9 holes water intervenes mainly on the 10th and 17th.
At Baviera Golf the par-3s and par-5s deserve a special mention due to their level of difficulty.
Not only did the pro José María Cañizares design the course but he still offers his services on a consultancy basis.
All of the fairways are carpeted with Bermuda grass for maximum enjoyment of the round.
The areas sown with Penn cross and the bunkers filled with fine white sand contrast starkly with the deep green of the fairways.

Cabopino Golf Marbella
The course is situated opposite the marina after which it is named. The round is 5,170 metres long and has a par of 71. It was designed by the Madrid architect Juan Ligués and has spectacular views of the sea and the beautiful natural surroundings, including a large number of magnificent spreading pine trees.
The course consists of three par-3’s, two par-5’s, and thirteen par-4’s. The longest hole is the 14th, a 456 metre par-5, and the shortest is the 13th, a par-3 which is 134 metres from the yellow tee. It is a course where those with a high handicap will enjoy using all of the clubs in their bag and lower handicaps will have to take a risk on every shot if their want to get round with a good score.
Among the most spectacular holes is the 3rd, a par-4 with a raised tee and a green surrounded by bunkers and about 200 metres above sea level. The holes with lakes - the 13th, 14th and 15th – are especially beautiful. The club is an authorised official centre for making made-to-measure clubs of among others the Cobra brands.

Calanova Golf Club
Calanova Golf Club is owned a group which promotes golf courses, and managed by Aymerich Golf Management, one of Europe’s leading companies in the construction and management of golf courses. The project lies in Mijas Golf Valley, between the sea and the Sierra de Mijas mountain range.
The course consists of 18 holes with a par of 72 and a length of 5,866 metres. It was built in accordance with the standards of the United States Golf Association (USGA) with regard to tees, bunkers, drainage and greens.
The greens, with an average surface area of more than 500 sq. m., have been shaped in such a way as to offer players a highly attractive amount of movement.
The fairways are very varied, wide where the tee shot lands and offering a clear view of the hazards before you hit the ball.
There are three, four or five tee platforms on each hole, so it is possible to play with the distances, as well as ensure an optimum level of maintenance.
The tees are raised in comparison with the dropping zone, so you can visualise the tee shot perfectly beforehand and get a spectacular view of the flight of the ball.
Incredible views of the sea and the hills of Mijas Bay from nearly all of the holes.
At present Calanova Golf Club has a provisional clubhouse of 300 square metres in which you will find the shop, the changing rooms (with showers), the reception area, and a restaurant with a terrace offering a spectacular view of the sea.

Club de Golf el Candado
One of the first courses to be built on the Costa del Sol, and several good players learnt their trade here. The course is complicated and short, and the ground is uneven. Technique is called for rather than strength. The 4th hole, a par-5, is the most complicated, as there is a curve to the left, which complicates play from the tee to the green. It is situated in a valley and has been host to numerous competitions.

Club de Golf el Coto
This 9-hole course is suitable for all players. It is demanding on professionals and reasonable with those wishing to play golf for the first time. Players will find numerous streams along the course. It looks like a Japanese garden, so one of its main features is the peaceful atmosphere. You need to aim well if you wish to get a good result.

Club de Golf Guadalmina
The Club de Golf Guadalmina consists of two different courses: Guadalmina Sur (south course) and Guadalmina Norte (north course).
Guadalmina Sur is the oldest course. It was opened in 1959 and was designed by Javier Arana. It is renowned for being an extremely tough course, so it is only really recommended for expert players. There are few water or earth hazards but the vegetation is abundant and it’s very easy to lose the ball. The 4th and the 16th are especially tricky.
The Guadalmina Norte course was opened in 1973 and runs parallel to the south course. It is easier but it contains more water hazards and the terrain is hillier with several slopes. The 7th and the 14th are especially tricky and are bordered by water.
The Club de Golf de Guadalmina is only a few minutes from the town of San Pedro de Alcántara, between Marbella and Sotogrande.
You can stay at the Guadalmina Golf Hotel or, if you prefer, the location of the club in the heart of the Costa del Sol/Costa del Golf means there is an extensive range of options for accommodation.

Club de Golf La Dama de Noche
The name Dama de Noche (Lady of the Night) comes from a bush which opens its flowers only at night and perfumes the entire valley. It is a comfortable course to play on, with various difficulties and alternative possibilities, but no rough, which allows players to find the ball quickly and makes for a fluid game. It has floodlights which allow golf lovers to play at any hour of the day or night.

Club de Golf la Siesta
The distance from the tees to the green varies considerably, and although it is a short course, ideal for short play, you have the sensation that you are playing on a much bigger ground. The course is not too difficult. You can use a wood to reach the green of the 7th. There are wonderful views of the Mediterranean Sea from the 9th hole.

Club de Golf la Zagaleta
Situated on a fabulous estate which used to belong to the Saudi Arabian magnate Adnan Kashogui, at the start of the road which links Marbella and Ronda. The La Zagaleta complex is one of the most comprehensive in terms of the activities and facilities which it offers.
The course is very recent – it was opened in 1995 - and has a par of 72. The golf course could not be in a better location, as its fairways are surrounded by a nature reserve with numerous species of animal and plants.
The club is strictly private and can only be used by members and their guests. Apart from golf and other sports facilities, La Zagaleta boasts a hunting reserve, a horse-riding centre and a magnificent clubhouse, which was previously the Kashogui residence. The golf course, designed by the North American Bradford Bens, offers players wonderful views of the natural landscape.

Doña Julia Golf Club
Situated in the Doña Julia Golf Resort, a spectacular complex in Casares, between Marbella and Sotogrande, just 45 minutes from Malaga airport and a few kilometres from Gibraltar. The course at Doña Julia Golf Club is perfectly integrated into the natural environment of the area and offers superb views of the Mediterranean and the African coast.
The course has 18 holes and a (provisional) par of 71, with an overall length of 5,976 metres. It was built to the standards of the United States Golf Association (USGA) with regard to tees, bunkers, drainage and greens.
It was designed by the prestigious Malaga architect Antonio García Garrido, the designer of some of Spain’s most emblematic courses.
The most outstanding feature of this course, which was developed by the Eva Marina Group, is the large size of its greens.
The golf course offers two extremely varied rounds and is suitable for players of all levels. The first 9 holes are longer and more difficult, and run between indigenous trees, lakes and gullies. The second 9 holes are more comfortable to play on, over gentle terrain, and very close to the sea. A challenge for both professional players and those with a low handicap.

El Chaparral Club de Golf
El Chaparral is an 18 hole golf course which sweeps along the undulating coastline of Mijas Costa, approximately 20 minutes drive from Malaga. As soon as Spanish architect Pepe Gancedo was commissioned the local golfing fraternity waited with baited breath to see if he could surpass his other design triumphs at Torrequebrada and Golf del Sur… they were not disappointed.
The course and Clubhouse are unique on the Costa del Sol. Practically every hole overlook the sea, and the nature of the terrain, the indigenous vegetation and pine forests ensure that no two holes are alike. Indeed with six par 3´s, six par 4´s and six par 5´s it is a beautiful and challenging course to play.

El Paraiso Golf Club
Situated 14 Km from Marbella in a valley surrounded by hills with magnificent views of the coast, it was designed with great attention to detail by Gary Player and Kirby. The designers laid out the course to take advantage of the slope of a hill which runs down to the sea. The clubhouse, situated in the middle of the course, is rustic but very popular.
The course has fairways which are quite wide, but you have to attack them quite carefully, because the roughs are dangerous traps. The water hazards play an important role, both for the beauty they add to the course and because of the dangerous streams lying hidden in the roughs. The central holes of the course (the 13th and the 14th) are incredibly beautiful, with their large trees and lakes. Probably the most difficult hole is the 7th, with its green guarded by two enormous bunkers.

Estepona Golf
Situated on the Costa del Sol, this course was inaugurated in 1989 and makes the most of the beautiful natural surroundings, at the foot of the Sierra Bermeja Mountains, to offer a round of wide fairways and very long greens. Estepona Golf has the longest hole in Spain, the par-5 3rd measuring exactly 568 metres.
It is a very beautiful course with an abundance of vegetation and water, with large lakes skirting the greens. The design of the course follows the natural layout of the terrain, including the hazards, and the wide fairways are the pride of Estepona. It’s a fast round and the greens have been described on numerous occasions as the best on the Costa del Sol.
It has a splendid clubhouse whose terraces offer spectacular views of the sea and the mountains. It has restaurant facilities and is only one and a half kilometres from Estepona in Malaga province.

Flamingos Golf Club
The Flamingos Golf Club is situated in one of the most beautiful settings around Marbella. Players can enjoy the magnificent views of the Mediterranean, of Africa and of Gibraltar from every one of its 18 holes.
The course at the Flamingos Golf Club The stream "Arroyo del Taraje", passes through Flamingo Rosa and ends into a lake which constitutes a natural border for the course at the tees 1 and 10. The vegetation has been taken into consideration right down to the smallest detail and each hole is defined by its own trees. The most demanding golfer will find himself among cypresses, orange, olive and pine trees, carob, chestnut and pomegranate trees.
The designer, Antonio García Garrido, thought carefully about the every last detail of the 5,907 square metres of the golf course, where cypresses, orange trees, olive trees, pines, carob trees, chestnuts and pomegranates define the shape of each of the 8 holes.

Golf Rio Real
El Club de Golf Río Real is in a superb location, just 3 km from Marbella city centre. It is built on terrain which slopes gently down to the sea, so many of the holes provide magnificent views of the Mediterranean. The course is not particularly rugged and it crosses four times the river which gives the Club and the Hotel their name. In general the greens are quite flat, very well maintained and protected by the surrounding bunkers. The 4th is especially worth mentioning due to its outstanding beauty and its fairway which runs down towards the beach. The 10th, a dogleg to the right, leads out onto the spectacular tee of the 11th, where you have a great view down onto the green which is situated on the other side of the river.

Guadalhorce Club de Golf
Situated 7 km from Malaga airport, Guadalhorce Club de Golf has an 18-hole course divided into two very distinct areas: from the 1st to the 9th the fairways are flat with no major hazards; but from the 9th to the 18th the course gets quite tricky – the terrain is more uneven, the greens are raised and the fairways are more difficult.
There is a family atmosphere in the Clubhouse and access to the course is restricted to members depending on the season and availability. The club offers other sports activities apart from golf.
As the club is located right in the heart of the Costa del Sol there is no shortage of accommodation of all kinds in the area, and Malaga, Torremolinos and Benalmadena are all close by.

La Cala Resort
La Cala Golf & Country Club is located right in the centre of the Costa del Sol and forms a spectacular enclave between Mijas Costa and Marbella, where you can enjoy a game of golf on three splendid 18-hole courses surrounded by green rolling hills.
The club also has 6 par-3 holes, a practice course, a putting and chipping green and a wonderful golf school.
The North Course is a 6,187 m par 73. It starts with the three flattest holes of the resort, followed by a narrow and demanding par 3. It is recommended that you hit the ball onto the green or you might find yourself in the ravine or the bunker. Watch out for the 5th, a difficult uphill index 1 hole where a good drive is needed. However all the holes offer individual challenges and amazing scenery.
If you have time, walk up to the championship tee box on the 16th and take in the spectacular views of the entire resort. You can even see the coastline from this height.
Good luck crossing the lake on this par 3 hole. The 18th hole is also interesting and then it is downhill all the way to the 19th where you can relax in style after an enjoyable round of golf.
The South Course is also a spectacular course, if a little tighter than the North. It measures 5,925 m and is a par 72. The 1st, 9th, 10th and 18th are all located beside the club house. Two interesting holes with water hazards on the 5th and 12th.
The 11th is a picturesque par 3. Watch where you hit the ball on the 9th or you might end up in trouble.
As in the North Course, club selection from the tee is paramount. Pick a driver at every par four or five and it will show up as ugly numbers on your scorecard. However a little forethought and ‘local knowledge’ by using a stroke saver will result in an enjoyable round and hopefully, a lower score.
There is no clear agreement on which is the better course of the two established La Cala tracks. Many a clubhouse conversation has carried on to the early hours of the morning with the relative merits of the two courses being debated. The obvious solution is to play both and make up your own mind.
Campo Europa was inaugurated in March 2005. Course designer Cabell B. Robinson says the biggest difference between the three courses is that the new course has the Ojen River in play on eight holes. The fairways are generous from the tees and the greens are slightly larger than on the existing courses. They are not severely contoured but are well bunkered and are easier for the average golfer. The par 71 course measures 6014 metres.

La Duquesa Golf & Country Club
Situated in the municipality of Manilva, in Malaga province, the course at the “Club de Golf La Duquesa” is very varied which makes it enjoyable for players of all levels. The course is divided into two clearly distinct parts. The first nine holes follow the English style, with narrow fairways and raised greens requiring accuracy and skilful play. However, the back nine holes are easier, the fairways are wider and allow you to make up for some of the mistakes made on the first 9 holes, which means players are usually satisfied with their overall performance.
You have to be careful when the wind is blowing from the west and take the wind into account when hitting the ball. The numerous bunkers constitute quite a challenge even for the more experienced player.
As the club is located on the Costa del Sol there is no shortage of different types of accommodation.

It is situated in the Cala de Mijas bay, a fantastic location between Fuengirola and Marbella. It is a completely flat course, and the greatest difficulty comes on the shots to green as these are very well defended by 3 magnificent lakes and a gully running right the way through the course. The course was designed for players of all levels, from beginners to the most expert.

La Quinta Golf & Country Club
La Quinta Golf & Country Club is one of the busiest golf resorts on the Costa del Sol/Costa del Golf. It is situated on the road to Ronda, very close to Malaga and just opposite the Puerto Banús tourist resort. It was designed by two Spanish professional players, Antonio Garrido and Manuel Piñero.
It is a comfortable and fun course which is suitable for players of all levels, with the difficulty lying in the uneven fairways and the deep bunkers.
There is an 18-hole course and another of 9 holes which can be combined to suit the wishes of the player. It is a very popular course and many famous people play there. It has a superb Clubhouse offering activities such as a gym, paddle-tennis courts, a swimming pool, squash courts, Turkish baths and a therapy and beauty centre.
It is open all year round.

Lauro Golf
The club is situated in the town of Alhaurín de la Torre, in Malaga and is a rather unusual course in that each of its holes is named after a famous bullfighter.
It is an inland course but it is located in a beautiful setting 300 metres above sea level, so it has great views and a mild climate.
The layout of the round respects the natural topography of the terrain and is not without its difficulties, so you will really need to concentrate if you want to get round in good order, especially on the 9th and 18th where the greens are bordered by water hazards and it is easy to lose the ball.
In short, it is a course which is only really suitable for good players and you are guaranteed an unforgettable day’s golfing.
The clubhouse is an old restored farmhouse and there are plenty of places to stay near the course.

It is situated among the mountains of the Sierra de Ronda mountain range which has endowed it with a layout with is both quite original and extremely beautiful.
Its wonderful location on the Costa del Sol makes it the ideal place for a stress-free golfing holiday.

Los Naranjos Golf Club
The Los Naranjos golf course is situated in "Golf Valley ", just a few kilometres from Marbella. It has undergone major changes during its second period, when it hosted major international tournaments.
Los Naranjos is experiencing a new era and a sign of this is the new clubhouse and the improvements to the fairways.
Although the fairways, like the bunkers, are wide, it is not an easy round and you will need to hit long and accurate shots to continue to make par hole after hole. There is a big difference between the first 9 holes and the back 9, so much so that you might almost think you were playing on two different courses. On the first 9, the fairways are quite wide though pretty uneven and both the trees and the water act as natural hazards. On the second stretch, the course is flatter and sown with orange trees (“naranjos” in Spanish), so it’s not hard to guess where the club gets its name.

Marbella Club Golf Resort
The latest addition to Andalusia’s golfing family is the Marbella Golf Club located in the foothills of the Benahavís mountains.
Designed by Dave Thomas of Belfry and San Roque Club fame, Marbella Golf Club winds between pines, cork oaks, gall oaks and other indigenous flora and offers marvellous views down to the sea and across to North Africa.
The varied design means that players will need to use all the clubs in their golf bags as the course demands accuracy and not a little technique.
The 12th, with its slight uphill dogleg to the right, requires care on the second shot if you want to avoid the large lake in front of the wide, horizontally laid green. The 18th offers a spectacular finish from high tees.
There is plenty of space but two trees in the middle of the fairway will give pause for thought and further down a 150-year-old gall oak guards the approach to the green some seventy yards out.

Marbella Golf Country Club
Marbella Golf Country Club is situated in the undulating landscape of the Costa del Sol, just five minutes from the cosmopolitan city of Marbella, and is considered one of the best golf courses in Europe.
This magnificent course, designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Senior, covers a total surface area of 6,000 metros and a par of 72.
The layout of the 18 holes was conceived with great imagination to blend in perfectly with the environment while testing the skill of, and providing enjoyment to, players of all levels.
The abundance of bunkers and the difficulty presented by the rough can make some of the shots quite complicated.
Several lakes emphasise the picturesque scenery above the 9th, and you will need to use your clubs very wisely and skilfully if you want to keep the ball dry. Each hole is unique with its own personality and all of the holes offer fantastic views out over the Mediterranean.
To add the finishing touches to a magnificent round of golf, Marbella Golf Country Club offers a range of top rate services, like its fantastic bar-restaurant with terrace, from which guests can enjoy the beautiful, relaxing panorama of the final holes with the Mediterranean in the background. The club also has a golf shop, a massage service, acupuncture, physiotherapy, sauna, Turkish bath, a golf and tennis school for players of all levels and, of course, privates facilities for members with major discounts on all of the services and facilities.
An impressive and exclusive Resort with elegantly designed Thai-type bungalows is planned for the near future, together with a hotel suite of 100 rooms to be built in carefully selected locations.

Mijas Golf
The Mijas Golf Club is situated on the Costa del Sol / Costa del Golf in the town of Fuengirola, very close to Marbella. The complex has two 18-hole courses with different characteristics which are suitable for players of all levels; Los Lagos (“The Lakes”) and Los Olivos (“The Olive Trees”).
LOS LAGOS At 6,367 metres, this is the longest of the two courses which go to make up Mijas Golf. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Los Lagos is a course with wide fairways and few tree hazards, but which is complicated by sand traps and the 9 lakes after which it is named, so you need to be very aware of these when hitting the ball. It is a relatively even course with large, flat greens. It appears that the legendary designer wanted to create a course that was suitable for amateurs but, at the same time, he has also managed to present them with a challenge. Los Lagos is a suitable course for big hitters, but it also demands great concentration on the part of the player as well as short shots.
LOS OLIVOS Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. What makes Los Olivos different from Los Lagos, apart from the abundance of olive trees which give it its name, is that it is shorter, with fewer water hazards, and the greens are smaller, more undulating and with slopes. As both courses were designed by the same person, it is clear that he was aiming to create an interesting contrast between the two: if Los Lagos is based on sand and water hazards, the main difficulties on Los Olivos are the narrower fairways, the trees which flank them, and the raised greens.

Monte Mayor Golf Club
This is quite hilly and uneven terrain, so it is advisable to take a cart. The topographical conditions make it difficult and at the same time attractive to play on, since it shows a natural and wild face.
Various bridges link fairways and tees. The hilly nature of the course will attract many players. The 7th hole is on a plateau with a lake next to the green. Along the course, precipices, slopes and fauna such as eagles, vultures or deer might pop up to add even more excitement to the game.
Monte Mayor is one of the most in Andalucía. Getting there is an adventure in itself, for the course is up in the mountains of Benahavis. Turn off the coastal highway between San Pedro and Estepona and the Cancelada exit, follow the signposts inland upward for about seven kilometres. Your patience will be well rewarded. It is a challenging course. The tees at the long 4th hole are on a raised platform and your drive must land on an isolated plateau. Your second shot must be aimed at yet another plateau.
Beside the green is a beautiful cascading waterfall. At the 17th the tees are set on three levels, from which there are fabulous views across a shallow river to the green 140 metres away.

Real Club de Golf Las Brisas
Situated in the heart of Nueva Andalucía, in the so-called Golf Valley, is the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, one of the oldest courses on the Costa del Sol.
The intense professional activity of Robert Trent Jones, one of the most famous golf course designers, reached a peak in 1969 with the opening of the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas.
The designer created a course which demands accuracy on the part of players and where it is not enough to hit long shots, but rather you have to use your head.
The layout contains a lot of water hazards, ten artificial lakes, ample protection from bunkers and greens which are mostly raised. All of this lies in a unique natural setting.
The numerous professional tournaments which have been hosted throughout the history of the club include two World Cups, three Spanish International Opens and the first Mediterranean Open.

Santa María Golf & Country Club
The golf course is located in a setting of incomparable natural beauty in the mountains of Andalusia. It runs through two valleys, with great views of the Mediterranean, in one of the most densely wooded areas of the municipality. The course winds through the valley and climbs up the side of the mountain before crossing the motorway in a northerly direction.
The first nine holes were designed by Antonio García Garrido. The hole on the 7th, a par-3 of 200 yards, is reached from raised tees. The following hole, a par-5, is a dogleg to the right with water on the right. The 14th also begins with a very high tee, flanks a lake and ends up at on a green with a waterfall to the right.
The course is surrounded by numerous apartment buildings, but this does not detract from its beauty, and it also has two practice courses, three putting greens and five short holes.

Santana Golf & Country Club
Santana Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole par-72 course of approximately 6,308 metres in length, running over 55 hectares of smooth terrain.
It was not necessary for the architect, Cabell B. Robinson, to make big changes in the arrangement of the grounds, because the original layout allowed for a straightforward solution to the problems of design.
The end result has been a long course with wide, well-defined fairways running over flat terrain, easy to walk round, and with a strong presence of water all the way around.
There are 4 tees for each hole, two for competition and two normal tees, both for gentlemen and for ladies, with wide putting surfaces and flanked by strategically placed, carefully maintained sand traps.
The course has plenty of wide paths for buggies attractively hidden behind rows of beautiful fruit trees.
However, the avocado tree (or Persea Índica, its scientific name) is not the only tree on the course, as there are numerous other species such as the eucalyptus, orange tree, lemon tree, cactus, pine tree, fig tree, olive tree, mango and many others which form part of the varied flora of this beautiful enclave, not to mention the immense variety of birdlife which also inhabits the estate, including a magnificent booted eagle.
The cork trees on the 5th hole are worth a special mention as they are more than 500 hundred years old, and the beautiful setting of the course, set as it is in the heart of nature, impresses the visitor with a sense of maturity, of durability and timelessness .
But it is not only the beauty of the scenery and the flora and fauna of which it is made up which will impress the player, because the golf course itself is endowed with features which will satisfy the most demanding golfer. The course was built using the most advanced resources available in the market, such as the modern irrigation system or the extensive and advanced drainage system, which means the number of days that the course is closed due to inclement weather is reduced to a bare minimum.
Technically speaking, the course is very interesting, because the layout of each hole has been carefully studied so as to present a continuous challenge to the most experienced players. The arrangement of the greens, which are well protected by threatening sand traps and the many water hazards distributed over the length of the course, will really put the player’s ability to the test, and he or she will be forced to employ their full repertoire of shots, both long and short, and will need a large dose of accuracy.

Torrequebrada Golf
Regarded as one of the best courses in Europe, one of the main features is the variety in the design of its fairways, because you need to think carefully about the best club on every single shot. Bolder players will have the opportunity to pitch their skill against every hole and enjoy them all, regardless of handicap. The greens are quite special due to their size and movement. Numerous lakes and strategically placed bunkers make this course a real test. Over 100 varieties of trees line the fairways. Beautiful views of the Mediterranean coast.

Club de Golf La Cañada
La Cañada was the first public golf course on the Costa of the Sol. It is located in a raised part of Guadiaro, a place with proportionally the highest number of amateur golfers in Spain.
The extension to the course, which currently forms the first nine holes, was designed by the architect Dave Thomas. The designer of the second nine holes (previously the first nine) was Robert Trent Jones, who also designed the neighbouring courses of Valderrama and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande.
It is a pleasant and varied round, with excellent views. The terrain is not flat but the slopes are gentle. The main features are the excellently maintained greens, a large number of trees, mainly made up of indigenous species, and the gully (“cañada”) on the 18th which gives the course its name.
The course can be played without difficulty and golf carts are not necessary. The greens have a lot of movement and are very well looked after. An ideal round for strategic play and you will have to use all of your clubs. Any good amateur is guaranteed a fun game..

Club de Golf Valderrama
The Valderrama Golf Club was the venue for the 1997 Ryder Cup, where victory fortunately went to the European team, but it is not this victory which gives the course its fame, but the spectacular round which makes the Valderrama the best course in Europe.
Every last detail has been thought of and taken care of. The fairways were designed with the greatest of care and precision and contain over 100 bunkers.
The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and improvements have been carried out over the years due to the top-level competitions which have been hosted here.
It is a spectacular course and only a lucky few manage to feel its fairways underfoot, as access is very restricted and exclusive.
It is situated in luxurious Sotogrande, Cádiz and there is a wide range of accommodation near to the course.

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande
The Real Club de Sotogrande has marvellous 18-hole course and one of 9 par-3’s, but its most outstanding feature is its natural beauty, and the wonderful climate which makes it possible to play all year round. It was inaugurated in 1964 and, like the course at Valderrama, was designed by Robert Trent Jones.
The variety of vegetation which gives this course a very special feeling; it is covered by cork trees, pines and eucalyptus which apart from adding beauty to the course can make for quite a tricky round.
The course is situated in Sotogrande, in Cádiz, and offers views out over the sea. The main hazards on the course, apart from the trees, are the big lakes, where the water will significantly complicate the game and makes this an extremely entertaining round.
The course has been the venue for the Jerez Cup International Tournament since 1969. There is a wide variety of accommodation in the vicinity of the course as this is an area which attracts a lot of tourism.
